All Saints' Church is Volunteering at Old First Church on Carroll Street in Brooklyn!

Since 2011, Old First in Brooklyn, NY has partnered with CAMBA and local area churches to operate a respite shelter for two months each summer. The respite shelter provides a dozen men who are participants of CAMBA job training programs with a safe place to sleep and a hot meal. You can read all about the program here!

All Saints’ parishioners are scheduled to volunteer the week of August 19th-23rd.  Volunteer opportunities include preparing a nightly meal and/or spending the night at the shelter with the CAMBA participants.

Bishop Provenzano Calls for Action
Following Spate of Mass Shootings

August 5, 2019

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Like many across the country—indeed the world—I woke up Sunday morning sickened by the news of the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio while still reeling from the mass shooting in El Paso only the day before and the mass shootings in Gilroy, California and in Brooklyn only a week before that.
Along with many of you, I wonder how is this possible? How is it possible that we have done nothing as a country to stop this from happening again and again? When will enough be enough?
In response to this overwhelming grief and anger, we must pray because it is what we believe. But it is not enough—we must also act.

You can read Bishop Provenzano's complete statement here

Dear Friends in Christ,

This Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost, when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us. Here at All Saints' Church, we know the power of the Spirit to build up our community as a beacon of love and hope.
This Sunday is also the conclusion of our Abounding in Good Works initiative to renew our facilities for the use of the next generation at All Saints'. By the generosity of this congregation, we will renovate our downstairs area to become classrooms and meetings spaces worthy of the work that is done here to form our young people and the broader community. We are already more than halfway to our goal of $150,000 in pledges for the Abounding in Good Works initiative! I encourage you to bring your pledge card this Sunday--and if you can't make it, please mail it to the parish office or give online here.

God bless you for your generosity, and see you this Sunday at All Saints' Church!

In Christ’s love,
The Rev. Steven D. Paulikas
Rector

Also, Please join us THIS SUNDAY June 9th for the All Saints' BBQ following the 10am service! This will also be our New Member Sunday, so if you are new to the All Saints' community, we especially encourage you to come so we can welcome you the All Saints' way - with food and fellowship! All are welcome!

Abounding in Good Works + Lavender Light Evensong

Dear Friends in Christ,

I'm writing today to let you know about an exciting opportunity to make real and lasting difference in the life of our parish and the wider community through the Abounding in Good Works initiative to renew the facilities of our church building for ministry.

As you may be aware, our downstairs space currently used for children and youth programs falls far short of our needs. After a season of information gathering and discernment, the Vestry has received bold architectural plans to transform this space into classrooms and meeting rooms worthy of the crucial ministries that will take place there. This new space will create opportunities for our children and youth to grow in knowledge and faith, and we expect that the renewed space will meet our growing program needs for at least a generation and build capacity for us to welcome new members and potential community partners.

St. Paul writes, “whoever sows generously will also reap generously…and God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having everything that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Cor. 9:6, 8).  We know these words to be true because of the grace we experience in so many ways at All Saints’ Church.

In the spirit of generous sowing and reaping, All Saints’ is seeking to raise $150,000 of the estimated $250,000 cost of this project in pledges from parishioners and friends of All Saints’ Church. The more that is pledged, the less stress will be put on our very modest reserve funds and the greater the impact of the renovations. To date, $70,462 has already been pledged or contributed toward this initiative from generous donors. We give thanks for this early abundance and invite you to join!

I ask that you prayerfully consider how generously you may sow this season. You can find pledge cards in the church or here; please return your completed card by mail or in person by Pentecost Sunday, June 9, when we will have a special celebration of good works. Abounding in Good Works pledges can be paid in full at the time of pledging or over a period of up to two years. Pledges can be paid by check or online at allsaintsparkslope.org/giving. Abounding in Good Works will support permanent improvements to our building, which means it is separate from our annual stewardship campaign, and pledges do not count toward your annual giving.

Special thanks go to our initiative co-chairs, Dr. Sharon Smith and Tom Cannell. All three of us are eager to answer any questions you might have. Thank you, and God bless you for your generosity.

In Christ’s love,
The Rev. Steven D. Paulikas
Rector

Rector's Sabbatical and upcoming events

Dear Friends,

In the Book of Leviticus, God instructs the Israelites to let the land rest once every seven years. The wisdom of this commandment lies in the acknowledgement that the design of God's creation includes the need for rest and contemplation. After eight years of joyful ministry at All Saints', I will be taking my first sabbatical this summer, from June 12 to September 4. I plan to use this time to work on my doctoral thesis and spend time with family and friends. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity. At the same time, it will be a chance for renewal within our parish and for the many talented leaders among us to reaffirm their roles in our common life.

Aside from my absence, very little will be different about this summer at All Saints' Church. Fr. Spencer, Fr. Blunt, and Deacon Jennifer will provide able leadership of our Sunday services and will look after the pastoral needs of our congregation, and the office will be open during regular hours. Liturgy and fellowship will be as warm and lively as any summer at All Saints'.

I will generally be out of email and phone contact during the period of the sabbatical; in case of pastoral or other concerns, please be in touch with the clergy or wardens, who will notify me in case of emergency. Even though I will be out of touch, I will, as always, keep our parish in my prayers--and take you with me wherever I go.

I look forward to celebrating the rest of the Easter season with you through our summer BBQ on Pentecost, June 9. We have much to look forward to, including our Abounding in Good Works campaign for the renewal of our downstairs facilities, which is now getting underway. Thank you for your kind wishes, and God bless you all!

In Christ’s love,

The Rev. Steven D. Paulikas
Rector
